Beautiful Weather Coupled with Freezing Temps
Spring is that crazy season when you can have gorgeous weather and then watch the news and see FREEZE warnings overnight. It is that precarious time when you are only a couple of weeks away from the predicted last frost in your area. Don’t be fooled. You can get excited about planting, but be cautious. Mother Nature is fickle and messes with the emotions of gardeners. This is why the winter sowing method cannot be beat! Yes, you can winter sow, even in the spring!
Winter Sowing in Spring? Isn’t that just for the cold weather?
Don’t let the term “winter sowing” cause you confusion. While the weather is cold, you can use the winter sowing method to get a head start on cold-weather crops and frost-hardy plants. As the weather warms up, you can use this method to start warm-weather crops like tomatoes and peppers.
So keep winter sowing as long as you have the containers. I continue to sow every couple of days. My backyard is filled with milk jugs, many of which have seedlings going now.
Does Winter Sowing Work?
Winter Sowing Absolutely Works! I have used this method for the last four years. I can write about it all day, but below are some pictures of this year’s results and my latest video on YouTube when I opened many of the jugs.
